Below are my brother's notes on last night's game at Cornell.
--
Well, I've never sat in Lynah Rink before wearing shorts and sandals! OK,
so it was a bit chilly down by the ice dressed that way, but it was a
wonderful change from the last few days' worth of oppressive Ithaca summer.

Friday night's annual summer hockey reunion weekend alumni game, honoring
the 1980 ECAC champion team, featured a few dozen alumni players, mostly
fom the '80s, with a few '90s and '70s players sprinkled in... and even one
'60s alum.

In the first of two 25-minute periods of play, the White team, playing as
the home team, took an early lead as Tim Vanini '90 notched the evening's
first goal, assisted by Casey Jones '90 and Chris Grenier '89, at 2:05; and
Andy Craig '87 made the score 2-0 just fifty seconds later.

The Red team answered with two goals soon after, both scored by Jeff Baikie
'83. Karl Habib '81 got assists on each of the two, scored at 3:11 and 3:27
respectively, and Geoff Roeszler '81 was credited with an assist on the
second of the two.

White moved ahead at 5:15 when radio color commentator Pete Tufford '69
scored, assisted by Duanne Moeser '86, Steve Wilson '97, and Mike Schafer
'86. (You guessed it; this was no ordinary hockey game!)

It was nearly ten minutes later that the White team scored again, Stew
Smith '89 from Andy Craig and Tony Eisenhut '88 at 14:36; and the home
squad added an insurance goal at 18:09, Duanne Moeser tallying with help
from Steve Wilson and Pete Chuchmach '78.

The plucky Red team was not to be left in the dust, though. They scored
twice more in the first period, at 20:21 by Gary Cullen '85 from Brian
Marrett '80, and at 24:14 by Joe Gallant '82, assisted by Jeff Baikie and
Larry Tobin '83.

The teams went to the locker room with a one-goal White lead after the
first twenty-five minutes of play, the White team's Jim Edmands '87 having
stopped 34 shots and the Red's Jean-Marc Pelletier (now officially
ineligible for further NCAA play thanks to his new contract with the
Philadelphia Flyers) posting 21 saves.

The second period leapt right into action. Just eight seconds in, Pete
Tufford scored his second goal of the night, assisted by Duanne Moeser and
Andy Craig for the White team, making the score 6-4.

White's offense took a breather for the next 24 minutes, though, and Red's
ramped up. The "visiting" team scored six goals in a row, starting with Joe
Gallant's 3:08 tally, assisted by Rob Lanneval '83. Lou Carnevale '84
scored unassisted at 13:24; Dave Chiappini '83 added one assisted by Gary
Cullen at 16:27, and Jeff Baikie completed his hat trick, unassisted, at
20:35.

Three goals were scored in the last minute of play; at 24:16, Joe Gallant
posted a hat trick assisted by Geoff Roeszler, and then added a fourth to
his scoresheet at 24:32. The White team posted one last goal, also recorded
at 24:32, when Tim Vanini converted on assists from Duanne Moeser, Stew
Smith, and Mike Schafer.

White's Edmands stopped 22 shots in the second period for a game total of
56 saves, and Red's Pelletier stopped 18, for a total of 39.

Also on the ice but not reflected in the scoring were Doug Berk '81, Bill
Cole '81, Tim Strawman '81, Robin Lang '76, Brian Campbell '76, Germaine
Villeneuve '84, Matt Lambert '83, Wayne Stokes '76, and Jim Gibson '81 for
the Red team, and Chad Wilson '97, Dan Vaughan '78, Bruce Frauley '91, Dave
Crombeen '88, Ed Ambis, and Jason Kendall '97 for White. The managers were
Geoff Patton '82 and Bob Hutchins '82.

Reported to be in attendance but unable to play hockey were Roy Kerling
'81, Mark Burdyl '79, Jerome Batt '43, Greg Chuchmach '77, Joe Cosentini
'49, and Greg Reid '83. Joe Nieuwendyk '88, Tom Prins '83, and Brian
Hayward '82 were expected but apparently did not attend.

Congratulations to Jason Dailey '98, who did a stellar job as referee at
keeping the penalty box wall from escaping.
