Finally, an opening in the battle of the fur and fin!!!

[begin tirade]

If you think timeouts due to rodent or seafood-hurling fans are disruptive,
how about those other timeouts (TV and team called)??? I can't help but
think that hoops (and football, to a degree) would be even more popular
without those hundred and forty-odd timeouts they give each team to stop the
game when things aren't going well. They should all be like hockey and give
each team *ONE* time out per game, period. Baseball is a different bird
altogether, as time is not an integral part of the game.

IMO, though, baseball and hockey are similar in that powers-that-be have
done fairly well at not flapping in the constant breeze of public opinion.
Nothing irks me more than football and basketball's incessant tweaking of
the rules to add scoring, limit scoring, speed up the game, slow down the
game, protect players, etc. With all the stopping for consultation of the
rulebook, the duration of commercial breaks often exceeds that of the
(supposed) action. Thank the Almighty for sports that set up rules then
leave them the *%$@# alone!!!

So, how 'bout them Spartans? How is it that they're atop the CCHA but as
low as 10th overall (below MI, LSSU and Western) in several rankings/polls?
Are they the Florida Panthers of the college ranks (as in "yeah, they're
winning but when are they going to crash")? Comments?

2 feet of snow in Anchorage since Sunday and still coming down... FINALLY!!!
