Each team had three penalties, 6 minutes.

The game turned on a controversial series of calls. Besdies a two minute
collapse in the first period during which Brown scored 3 times (and resulted in
Dartmouth goalie Ben Heller being pulled for Scott Baker), the game was pretty
even going into the third period.

At 7:10 of the third period, Dartmouth got a bench penalty for holding. During
action on the ice in front of the Dartmouth bench, a Brown player took a couple
of swings with his stick at players seated in the Dartmouth bench. As much out
of self-defense as anything else, a Dartmouth player grabbed the Brown stick to
push it out of the way of the Dartmouth bench. Rather than calling the Brown
player for unsportsmanlike conduct (or something else), the Dartmouth bench got
called for holding. Then 26 seconds into the ensuing power play, there was a
scramble in front of the Dartmouth net, a shot on goal, a save by Dartmouth
goalie Scott Baker, THEN a whistle by the official, THEN the puck trickled over
the goal line, THEN the goal light lit up and Brown was awarded a goal.
Everyone in Thompson heard the whistle before the puck went in the net but
after strenuous discussion, the goal remained on the boards. This fifth goal as
the result of two horrendous calls proved to be too much for the big green to
overcome.

If you are interested in seeing this game, it will be broadcast on Sports
Channel New England at 11 PM Saturday night.
