My pet peeves...
 
Situation1: P1 to P2 to P3 to P2 - scores.  Some do not give an assist
   to P1, but imho, P1 and P2 deserve assists.
 
Situation: P1 steals puck and advances the puck with P2 heading to the
   goal (a 2-on-1 play, let's say).  P1 scores as the defenseman "takes
   away" the pass.  Most would give no assist, but imho, P2 deserves an
   assist, and my reading of the rules supports an assist to P2.  But
   most scorers will not give the assist to a player unless he touches
   the puck :(
