Drechsel and Miller appointed to hockey staff at Denver
DENVER oe University of Denver Head Hockey Coach George Gwozdecky
announced today the hiring of Greg Drechsel (Oxford, Ohio) and Steve
Miller (Oxford, Ohio) as assistant coaches. Both coaches come from
Miami University (Ohio) where they served under Gwozdecky before he
accepted the post at Denver in May. They will be involved in
recruiting, on-ice training, off-ice conditioning and game analysis.
"Greg and Steve are talented coaches who are strong evaluators,
teachers and roles models for our team. They lend continuity to the
program here. They know how I operate and I know what to expect from
them. We've had success together in the past and I feel that together
we can continue that success here," Gwozdecky said.
Drechsel served as head recruiting coordinator at Miami last season
while aiding in all phases of practice and game preparation. Before
Miami, he served as an assistant at Clarkson University for four
seasons helping the Golden Knights to two Eastern College Athletic
Conference championships and four consecutive NCAA tournament
appearances. A 1988 graduate of Colgate University with a bachelor of
arts degree in psychology, Drechsel played professionally in West
Germany in 1988 and with the Maine Mariners of the American Hockey
League in 1989.
Miller has spent the last three seasons as part of the Miami coaching
staff helping out with recruiting, on ice coaching, video breakdown
and game analysis, and office administration. He was an assistant
coach and head coach for the junior varsity at his alma mater Saint
Mary's College of Minnesota, before coaching at Miami. During his
coaching tenure his teams have made the playoffs every season. A 1988
graduate of Saint Mary's with a bachelor of arts in public
administration, Miller played four years with Saint Mary's and one
year with the Madison Capitols (1984-85) in the United States Hockey
League.
Both coaches assume their responsibilities immediately.
