Good morning,

I am passing along an announcement from New England Archivists that might
interest some librarians in Maine.

I’m happy to announce that the NEA Mentoring Program is being revived this
fall! I’m writing in the hope that you (or your colleagues) will consider
joining the program as either a mentor or mentee. The NEA Mentoring Program
offers members the opportunity to participate in Mentoring Circles, which
are small groups that typically consist of four to six mentees and two
co-mentors. The circle model fosters mentoring relationships between
participants and between mentors. The group serves to support mentees in
setting important career and personal development goals, building
competence and character to reach those goals, and fostering connections
with people in their professional field. For mentors, the group serves to
in the expansion of a professional network, in gaining a fresh perspective
from someone newer in the field, and in “Paying it forward” professionally.

The Mentoring Program is a wonderful way to connect with and support a
diverse group of archivally minded individuals of varying experience levels
dedicated to the care of cultural heritage and the documentary record. It
is intended to forge a strong, inclusive professional network where
individuals have a dedicated space for community building and sharing their
stories. At the meetings, you will have the opportunity to discuss daily
issues, share strategies for career and personal development, and learn
from and support each other. The Mentorship is only available to NEA
members; you can join or renew your membership at

To learn more about the NEA Mentoring Program and access the application
form visit NewEnglandArchivists.org/mentoring-program
<https://newenglandarchivists.org/Mentoring-Program>. Applications for
mentees and mentors will be accepted until November 1, 2022. Applicants
will receive further information by December 1, 2022 and should expect to
begin meeting in January of 2023. All meetings will be virtual this year to
prioritize safety, to make meetings convenient to attend, and to encourage
broad participation across all New England.

As an all volunteer-run organization, member involvement is essential to
NEA’s success. NEA thrives because our volunteers offer their time,
perspective, experience, and energy to serve the needs of our community.
Serving with NEA as a mentor or participating as a mentee is also a
fantastic way to expand your professional network, strengthen your resume,
and build new skills.
