We cover our paperbacks in several ways.

We have a volunteer who uses DUCK easyLiner which is very forgiving for
re-positioning needs.

I also have one of those tape dispenser units with the spring loaded
platform. I use it all the time and I am able to get a clean edge on the
end near the cutter but sometimes "overshoot" the bottom edge just because
the tape rolls are not so easy to pull out evenly and slowly. A nice sharp
pair of small scissors does the job for getting any overage off after
cutting the top and folding the tape over the edge of the paperback cover.
I'd be happy to take some still photos or make a short video of how I use
the device to send to individuals who request.

Lewiston has an Italian device for covering their seems to
provide a nice result.
