Oh, I’d not thought to go directly to publishers. I don’t think I would have time to write to different publishers, but it is an idea to consider.
This evening I’ve written to Barnes and Noble, Brodart, and Sherman’s Books Stores to ask about creating accounts to find an Ingram alternative. For each, any discount(s) may not be as large, but we do want to receive books!

The fifteen book issue is causing a lot of issues for me. This week I received my books with a library from Louisiana's packing slip in it. I've begun buying books directly from the publisher, even though the discounts are less at least I get my books in a timely manner.
I too have not seen the surcharge on our invoices yet. Lisa

The issue impacting us at the moment is the holding books until there are 15, and apparently it's by warehouse, not overall order amounts.
I feel like our orders are being orphaned at the Ingram warehouses. If we can't receive small orders, then a good discount is doing a small budget no good!
Anyone else feeling this?

I was given no specifics on that. Ryan [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> might know more. Deb

Hi Deb--
Thanks for the update. I have a question about the fuel surcharge. Do we have exact language on that yet? Are they providing an objective metric for stability?
Thanks,
Vicky

Subject: [MELIBS-L] Ingram Service Alert
Hi All, Ryan at MHEC asked me to distribute the Ingram service alert below. MHEC has been negotiating to renew discounts with Ingram on the L51 contract. It looks like the following changes will happen:
To continue the current contract and the free shipping to libraries, Ingram has had to make a few adjustments to their agreement to help them absorb some of the pricing fluctuations in the market. One aspect of the change is that they will have a minimum number of items (15) per order.
Other changes include:
* Ingram's standard payment terms no longer include a 1% early pay discount.
* The current Trade discount of 47.5% will change to 46.5%.
* Due to the impact of rising oil prices, Ingram has instituted a $2.50 fuel surcharge. These charges will appear as a Shipping and
Handling charge on your invoice. This will be removed when oil prices stabilize.
Letter from Ingram-
To Our Valued Library Customer,
Thank you for your loyalty to Ingram Library Services and your continuing trust in our products. We have been pleased to offer our library and retail customers continuous services during the past few years. Our distribution centers have continued with no reduction in operations. They are hiring in all locations across the U.S. We continue to work with publishers in creative ways to make sure we can stock the books and other materials your patrons want.
Similarly, we know libraries are doing everything to meet the increased demand for services.
However, during this time, prices have risen on almost everything we need to keep our materials moving, especially fuel and shipping charges.
To prevent passing most of these costs on to our customers, we have taken every active measure reasonable to absorb those increased costs. Due to rising costs, we have adjusted the number of items per shipment in your Ingram paid shipping accounts. Any Ingram paid freight shipping account will require a 15 unit minimum before shipping. This minimum shipment requirement will be a more cost-effective and environmentally sustainable method. If your library has accepted the Street SmartSM Affidavit for highly visible titles with a publisher-assigned on-sale date, this constraint will not affect Street Smart (Standard) or Street Smart (Select) titles. These titles will release early and ship independently to make street date if Ingram receives the books from publishers on time.
We thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions regarding consolidating your accounts or any of these changes, please contact Rob Scott [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]><mailto:[log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>> and Amanda Inman [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]><mailto:[log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>>.
Sincerely,
Your Ingram Library Services Team
