End of the week update on Masks, Checklists, and Guidance
The Governor did issue an Executive Order repealing the mask mandate as of Monday, May 24. Masks are still required in schools and childcare settings.
To add some perspective as you determine your policies, State government employees have received guidance that masks will be required until July 7. This provides "additional time to determine percentage of employees vaccinated before implementing the Governor's repeal of the distancing, capacity, and masking requirements in a way that keeps everyone safe."
The 24-hour of quarantine of interlibrary loan materials is no longer required beginning Monday, May 24, 2021.
On May 24, 2021 Maine will adopt the US CDC Guidance for vaccinated people regarding masks and physical distancing. The State of Maine is in the process of retiring checklists and will be referring to U.S, CDC guidance. The U.S. CDC Guidance has not yet been updated. Libraries would likely fall under Community Based Organizations (CBO) guidance last updated on April 19. A new update is expected.
The Maine Library Commission will retain a copy of the May 18th Public Library Checklist for libraries to use as needed. Maine Executive orders and U.S. CDC guidance is in effect for libraries to follow. MSL will not be updating the Public Library Checklist but will also look to guidance from U.S. CDC to help guide libraries.
The guidance from U.S. CDC <https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/fully-vaccinated-guidance.html> allows your municipal or nonprofit library to set your own policies.
"Although fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask or physically distance in any setting, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance."
Updates to the MSL website is in progress. I appreciate your patience!
Stay well,
Janet
