The Maine Readers Choice Award committee would like you to keep your
eyes open for 2014 titles that might qualify for the 2015 award. We are
looking for those books that really stand out. The kind where the
reader comes away thinking he/she has read a powerful book that has
touched his/her heart. You see where this is going, I'm sure.
According to Joyce Saricks, Literary fiction is critically acclaimed,
often award-winning, fiction. These books are more often character
centered rather than plot oriented. They are provocative and often
address more serious issues. These are not page-turners, per se,
although their fans certainly find them engrossing and compelling
reading. This type of fiction is complex, literate, and multilayered
novels that wrestle with universal dilemmas. Any genre, depending on
these qualities, can fit into literary fiction.
As you read during the year, please feel free to make suggestions on
books that the committee should look at for the 2015 award. You can
make your suggestions by clicking on the following link
http://www.maine.gov/msl/libs/services/readers/reading.htm Suggestions
will be taken through November 15th.
Just remember, the books must be published in 2014 to be considered. We
do not look at books in a series, trilogies, or revised editions.
The committee thanks you for your suggestions.
