Saturday afternoon, game two of hockey*4 weekend found the Crimson
playing with tremendous confidence and recording probably their best
game of the season. The Elis had trouble keeping up with Harvard,
as the Crimson always seems to skate well against Yale.

Diana Clark (Megan Hall, Christa Calagione) got the scoring started
when she finished off a good 1-2 out of the corner at the near post.
Holly Leitzes (Francie Walton) scored a 5 on 3 power play goal when
her point shot deflected in off a Yale defender. Stacy Kellogg (AJ
Mleczko) made it 3-0 on another power play goal on another 1-2 out
of the corner. AJ (Winkie Mleczko, Kellogg) redirected a shot from
sister Winkie, after an elongated 1-2 between the slot and point.
Hall made a good solo rush, circled the net and tuck the puck in to
finish the scoring at 5-0 for the first period.

In the second period, Kellogg (AJ) got a shorthanded goal on a good
looking 1-2 break in. Nice pass, nice shot! Kellogg (Colleen Malek,
AJ) completed her hat trick on a break in play after tons of Harvard
pressure. Calagione (Hall) make it 8-0 after a lovely pass from Hall
on the break in. Yale finally scored on replacement goal Whitney
Smith. Mara McAdams (Katherine Westgate, Catharine Balco) put in the
second rebound to finish off a good break in play. The Crimson
closed out the scoring in the third period when Hall (Calagione) made
a marvelous solo break in, deked the goalie, and shot home. Lovely
goal!

Yale had a tough game. Harvard is always up for this match. I liked
that their coach played 3 lines and 2 defensive pairs the whole
match. Its good to see a coach showing some confidence in his
players even in a big game. The Elis top players in my mind were Mara
McAdams and Courtney Granville. Both of them skate well and play
heads up hockey. Still it is hard to do much without a lot of
talent around you.

Harvard played extremely well. For once they used a game that they
should win to get it together. All the lines played well and
developed skills they should be able to use in the future. The out-
standing player for the Crimson was defender Holly Leitzes. She
holds the team together with her strong fluid skating and sharp
passing. Megan Hall had a wonderful match. I would like to see her
move her feet all the time the way she did sometimes on Saturday.
Her two solo goals were top quality stuff. Keep it up Hall! Stacy
Kellogg had a great scoring game. If she could learn to a skate more
and keep her head up looking for the best play, she could be as good
as she thinks she is. The line of Clark, Calagione and Hall played
very well together. They are now a strength for the team. Calagione
had some aggressive moves to the net, but looked tired. Colleen
Malek had another good afternoon on D for Harvard. Her reads to
break up plays are very good. Whitney Smith got to play the last
half of the game and in the third came up with some good saves. Team
Mleczko played a fun game. I like to see players having a good time,
but I hope the sisters can remember that they do have other team-
mates. On the injury front: Joey Alissi had a minor accident in
warm-up and sat out the game. Winkie Mleczko took a shot on the
forearm in the second and did not return for the third period. As
I said at the start, a good performance by Harvard may they keep
using those skills in the future.
