Add myself, Heather, and a number of Merrimack followers to this list.
I was not surprised that 14 games was the penalty handed down by the
NC$$ - it's consistent with the way they have handled other cases.
But it is also consistent with the NC$$'s ludicrous policy of punishing
the student-athlete whenever possible, even if it's not deserved. I
would consider it deserved if Ingraham knew he was not eligible but
played anyway, yet all the evidence points to the fact that it was a
mistake made by the institution (apparently unintentional) and one he
was unaware of.

It's even worse when you consider that unlike some other players,
Ingraham will probably not go anywhere other than Europe after
college, because of his size. So this year is it for him. And he's
got to pay the price for a mistake someone else made. If anything,
some sort of penalty should have been assessed to Maine instead, and
only for being guilty of an oversight where perhaps they should have
been more aware - certainly not an intentional oversight. But as
usual, the kids get hit harder than the school.

This case is just another example why there are too many rules in
college sports and how often the punishment does not fit the crime.
