The College Hockey Discussion List Poll for November 18, 1992:

Teams were given 15 points for a first-place vote, 14 for a second-place
vote, and so on down to 1 point for a fifteenth-place vote. Total first-
place votes are in parentheses.

Well, it seems that if a hockey team wants to impress people, one good way
to do it is to put up 25 goals over two games. Maine picked up all 16 first
place votes this week to maintain its position atop the HOCKEY-L poll. (I
wonder how head coach Shawn Walsh, who I gather is not terribly fond of the
media polls, will feel about his team being at the top of ANOTHER one)
Also, Vermont, off its weekend sweep of the North Country teams, makes its
debut in the Top 15. Meanwhile, two teams who definitely did NOT have good
weekends are out of the poll this week -- RPI and Clarkson, which plummeted
from fifth place last week. Boy, you voters are tough :-)

There was some strong agreement between the two media polls (Times-Union and
WMPL) and HOCKEY-L this week, particularly with WMPL, in which the top eight
teams are identical with those in HOCKEY-L, and #9 and #10 are switched. We
may be getting to the point where the real "contenders" are starting to
emerge, at least in the pollsters' minds (still a long way to go yet on the
ice).

This week's comparison:

                                             Times-
                                  HOCKEY-L Union WMPL
     Team Record Rank Rank Rank

     Maine 6-0-1 1 1 1
     Lake Superior 6-1-1 2 2 2
     Denver 7-1 3 4 3
     Michigan 5-2-2 4 3 4
     Wisconsin 5-2-1 5 6 5
     Harvard 3-0 6 5 6
     Boston University 2-1-1 7 7 7
     Miami 5-2-1 8 8 8
     Western Michigan 5-2-1 9 10 10
     Michigan Tech 5-3 10 (13) 9
     Vermont 2-0 11 9
     St. Lawrence 4-1 12
     Alaska-Anchorage 4-2 13
     Minnesota 2-3-3 14
     UMass-Lowell 5-2 15 (15)

Here's a Tadpoll composite of the three polls, which doesn't really reveal
any surprises:

     1. Maine 45
     2. Lake Superior 42
     3. Denver 38
     4. Michigan 37
     5. Wisconsin 32
     6. Harvard 31
     7. Boston University 27
     8. Miami 24
     9. Western Michigan 19
