THREE CORSAIRS NAMED NEW ENGLAND HOCKEY WRITERS ALL-STARS, GRANT MVP
BOSTON, MA-Three members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's hockey team have been named Eastern College Athletic Conference Northeast New England Hockey Writers All-Stars and one has taken the top honor for the 2007-08 season.
Senior forward Jeff Grant ((Burlington, MA/Austin Prep) was named ECAC New England MVP, and he was joined on the All-Star Team by senior defenseman Tyler Crocker (Wakefield, MA/Wakefield HS) and junior goaltender Jeff Green (Medway, MA/Valley Jr. Warriors).
Grant, one of two assistant captains, led the Corsairs in scoring with 17 goals and 21 assists for 87 points. He finished with a total has 67 goals and 77 assists for 144 points in 109 games in his career, and ranked among the conference leaders in goals, assists, points, and power play goals and points.
Crocker, the team captain, shared the team lead in scoring among defensemen, with six goals and 11 assists for 17 points. All six of his goals came on the power play, and he finished with 11 goals and 42 assists for 53 points in 102 games.
Green was first in the conference with a 2.47 goals-against average, and was fourth in winning percentage at .648. He had two shutouts, and his career totals stand at eight shutouts and a career .794 winning percentage.
“Tyler Crocker, Jeff Grant, and Jeff Green were mainstays of this team in capturing our third consecutive ECAC Northeast Championship,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach John Rolli. “When we struggled in January, these three helped to keep the team focused, and entering the stretch run the team pulled off eight consecutive wins."
The awards will be formally presented at the 2008 New England Hockey Writers Association banquet on April 16th.
UMass Dartmouth finished the season with an 18-9-1 record, won their third consecutive ECAC Northeast championship and became the first ECAC Northeast team to host a game in the NCAA Division III Championships.
