Joe,

Zamboni has a monopoly. If not, then more than 8000 would have been sold. Besides, they last frieking forever.

Subject: Zambonis

I was listening to Only A Game on my local public radio station this
morning, and they had a piece on Zambonis:

http://www.onlyagame.org/shows/2006/05/20060527_8.asp

They do a nice job on the history of the machine. My brother has a friend
who opines that there are three things a person will sit and watch and be
mesmerized by: a fire, a waterfall and a Zamboni.

Obligatory College Hockey Content: While I was trawling through Zamboni's
website, I found that Zamboni delivered Machine #8000 to the U of Minnesota
in 2005:

http://zamboni.com/news/news8000.html

Is it possible that there have only been 8000 Zamboni brand ice resurfacing
machines built?

Joe
