#4 St. Cloud State Defeats Brown, 5-4
St. Cloud, Minn. -- The #4 ranked St. Cloud State University men's hockey
team hit a all-time program high (at the Division I level) by winning its
ninth consecutive game on Jan. 20, with a 5-4 triumph over visiting Brown
University. The win pushed the Huskies' record to 19-4-1, 12-4-0 WCHA,
while Brown falls to 4-12-2, 2-8-2 ECAC. SCSU has now won nine consecutive
games, which dates back to a 3-1 loss to Wisconsin on Dec. 8.
For the second consecutive night, Keith Anderson opened the game's scoring
for SCSU when he posted a tally at 4:59 on the power play with an assist
from Joe Motzko and Jon Cullen. Ritchie Larson scored his fourth goal of
the season for SCSU at 6:07 of the first with assists from Brandon Sampair
and Tyler Arnason before Duvie Westcott notched his fifth goal of the season
at 11:11 of the first with assists from Arnason and Larson.<p>
Brown collected its first goal of the game at 19:24 when Shane Mudryk hit
one at 19:24 of the first. Paul Esdale made it 3-2 when he scored at 10:09
of the second before SCSU's Tyler Arnason scored at 12:17 of the second on
the power play with assists from Nate DiCasmirro and Mark Hartigan. Brown's
Matt Kohnasky ended the second period with an unassisted goal at 19:18 of
the second.
In the third, SCSU's Derek Eastman scored the game winner at 2:18 on the
power play with assists from Cullen and Ryan Malone. Brown ended the game
with a goal by Esdale at the buzzer. SCSU outshot the Bears 33-21, while
Scott Meyer and Jake Moreland combined for the win. Meyer had 10 saves in
the game and allowed two goals, while Moreland had seven saves and two goals
allowed. Moreland was the goalie of record in the contest and he is now
3-1-0. Yann Danis was the goalie for Brown with 28 saves in the game.
The Huskies will continue their season on Jan. 26-27, with a road trip to
North Dakota.
