RPI coasted to an easy 10-2 pasting of Holy Cross in Troy tonight. Actually, the score makes the game seem closer than it really was. RPI dominated the entire game being in the unusual situation of being both bigger and faster than their opponents. Time after time, RPI's big lunky defenseman outraced the Crusaders forwards going after the puck. The only offensive pressure that Holy Cross managed was during a 5 on 3 in the 2nd period when Holy Cross scored and again in the third when they beat sophomore goalie James Palmer on the first shot he faced in his collegiate career.

RPI forwards managed to pad their stats as Brad Tapper
scored 3 goals (and 1 assist), Matt Murley had 4 assists and
Andrew McPherson had 2 goals and 2 assists. Holy Cross goalie
Matt Smith played a decent game stopping RPI on at least 4 breakaways and stopping 38 of 48 shots, many from point blank
range in the slot. The Holy Cross defenseman couldn't keep up with the speedy Engineer forwards who kept buzzing through the slot peppering Smith with shots.
The only down side for the Engineers was that they continue to
take dumb penalties taking 7 penalties in a game when they didn't need to take any. Only one of those penalties cost the Engineers as they gave up the first goal when 2 men down. But the Engineers need to stop taking stupid penalties when they
get into the meat of their league schedule.

Next up is a road trip to Niagara on Tuesday and a trip down the Hudson River to West Point next Saturday.
