A)Omaha didn't follow college hockey back then, just the USHL and the NHL.
B)The WCHA isn't the name recognition conference as you put it, just that
more people here know the schools from there than from the CCHA. St Cloud
St., North Dakota, and Mankato St. are UNO rivals in every other sport, as
they are in the same conference (NCC). Nebraska has a rivalry with Colorado
in almost anything possible, so there's 2 more teams, plus Wisconsin and
Minnesota are Big 10 schools and already well known, making 7 of the 10.
Michigan Tech and Minn-Duluth aren't well known, but UNO has already played
them so there's recognition there. That leaves Alaska-Anchorage, which is
really the only one that people in Omaha haven't heard of

Never said it wasn't, jsut as some football players from nebraska do go out
of state, but more Omaha players goto the WCHA (and now UNO) then any other
conference.
