The officiating was uneven in this game. Notice the early matching
minors early in periods 1 & 2. It looked as though they were going
to call it close, but then they stopped calling them except for
matching minors. The Referee (Robin Anderson, or maybe Daryl
Price) was especially inclined to let things go. This, by the way,
generally favors Point's style. But, as often happens, the game
got chippier along the way and Point ended the game with 3 guys in
the penalty box.
Point was only 1 of 5 on the Power Play, well below our season
average, while RIT was 2 of 7 (2 of 8 if you count two men down as
two power plays). Both teams liked to hit. However, it didn't
look to me as if RIT could skate with Point. Only a couple of
their guys seemed to have as much speed. The third period was
sloppy by both sides. Point seemed to lose its intensity in that
period. I think they decided they had it won and just skated it
out.
One curious thing of note. Down 6-2 and up 5/3 on the power play,
RIT called a time out with :50 left to go. Pointer fans chanted
"Pull the Goalie" during the time out, but they didn't. Does
anyone ever practice 6 on 3? Anyway, why the time out? Another
minor curiousity - the teams shook hands after the game. Is that
common back East? When we have a two game series, we usually only
shake after the second game. There was also some kind of alterca-
tion during that process, something I've never seen here before.
I have a feeling tonight's game will be rough. BTW, won't be able
to post tonight's game before Monday.
