Someone asked last week why Eddie Jeremiah won the Coach of
the Year award one year in I the late '60s ('67 I think) despite
his team, Dartmouth, having a losing record. Jeremiah died from
cancer in June, soon after that season ended. I assume that this
fact was well-known among the voters that year and as Mike Machnik
surmised it must have been a career achievement award. This information
comes from the NCAA's Hockey Guide of 1968 which had a nice tribute for
Jeremiah. And on the topic of the NCAA Hockey Guides, they were
published until the early 1980s and the last few did not have pictures
of hockey players on the covers.
