The other factor which has traditionally made the Michigan Tech -
Northern
Michigan rivalry so intense it that it's the *only* opportunity for
a "home and home" series for both teams.  A pretty high percentage of
the population of Houghton/Hancock makes the 100 mile trip down US41 to
Lakeview when the Huskies play in Marquette. Likewise, the other night
of the series sees the only time of the year when the MacInnes Student
Ice
Arena at Tech sees any significant presence by fans of the "opposition".
 
I won't even get on my soapbox about Tech's Pep Band being barred from
Lakeview.  :-)
