I really don't want to copy Mr. God's post but I too witnessed this game and
I too am a RPI fan. BUT Clarkson was the superior team that night and even
with perfect officiating (an impossibility in any sport, let alone ice
hockey), RPI would have lost that game. Clarkson plays a PHYSICAL game and
the officials let both teams play. Each team knew exactly what the officials
were or weren't going to call and were able to play without the confusion
that inconsistent oficiating provides. The officials did not cause Clarkson
to win over 80% of the faceoffs (two of which directly resulted in a Clarkson
goal) nor did the officiating cause Clarkson to check aggressively and come
up with most pucks in the corners and places where physical play is rewarded.
In comparison with the officiating from the night before (SLU-RPI), the
officials for the Clarkson game were fair and certainly did not favor either
team by the calls it did make. Due to the fact that Clarkson is much more
physical a team than RPI at the moment, this type of game certainly enhanced
Clarkson's chances. But in reality, Clarkson simply won this game on both
ends of the ice and to complain about the officiating, IMO, is sour grapes
without the pits! On the other hand, the SLU-RPI game.........
