The way I understand it, and this comes up a lot here so I won't start it
again, the split went much deeper than that...it had much to do with the
underlying philosophies of the schools towards hockey, academics, and
athletic scholarships. It is perhaps surprising that the split did not
occur earlier than it did.

I guess the way I see it, if the ECAC non-Ivies had a real problem with the
Ivies, they either would have left by now (RPI came perhaps the closest in
recent years) or would be getting ready to leave. That doesn't seem to be
the case. The relationship between the Ivies and non-Ivies is perhaps
strained at times, but not to the point where the schools want to split.
So I can't agree that the Ivies should leave...they are an integral
component of the game and bring a lot to it. It's just that to understand
why various things happen, we have to try to understand the dynamics
between the Ivies and the non-Ivies (a difficult thing in itself :-)).
