Boston University freshman Travis Roy remained in guarded condition
Saturday night at Boston City Hospital after sustaining a shattered
vertabra and injured spinal cord Friday night.

According to the Portland Newspapers, Roy, 20, is scheduled to
undergo surgery Monday. BU team doctor Anthony Schepsis said the
odds of a full recovery for Roy are slim.

Roy became paralyzed from the neck down Friday night during a game
against North Dakota at BU's Walter Brown arena. Roy hit a North
Dakota player and was checked into the boards.

Schepsis said Roy remained conscious after the injury, which
halted the game for 20 minutes.

Roy's father, Lee, went onto the ice to be with his son shortly
after the injury. Lee Roy told reporters at a press conference that
Travis looked up at him and said, "Dad, I'm in big trouble, I can't
feel anything."

Roy, from Yarmouth, Maine, has played hockey all of his life. He
worked as a stickboy for Maine's former minor league hockey
team, the Maine Mariners, for eight seasons. It was his dream to
some day become a professional hockey player.
