it seems to me that the RPI figures don't give an accurate picture of
the differences between CC and minnesota. Granted, this issue will
probably be decided on the ice in st. paul this friday, but here are
the data.
team cc minn
---- -- ----
overall record 29-10-1 21-12-5
out of conference 5-1 3-1
in conference 24-9-1 18-11-5
head to head 2-2 2-2
confence common 16-7-1 10-9-5
conference extra 6-0 6-0
winning percentage .7375 .6184
opponents percent .4914 .5549
o-o percent .5089 .5079
RPI .5573 .5590
Observe that the ENTIRE difference in opponents percentage is based on
(if we discount 1 michigan game) ONLY 9 games for CC and ONLY 7 games
for minnesota. thats less than 22% of the schedule, yet it combines
for 75% of the rating.
Conference common includes games against common opponents at common
locations
The 4 games against denver
The 4 games against michigan tech
The 4 games against st cloud
The 4 games against north dakota
The 2 regular season games at anchorage
The 2 regular season games at northern michigan
The 2 regular season games at wisconsin
The 2 regular season home games against minnesota duluth
conference extra includes
CC - 4 home games against anchorage (2 in playoffs)
CC - 2 home games against northern michigan
MN - 2 away games at duluth
MN - 2 home games against duluth (in playoffs)
MN - 2 home games against wisconsin
four of cc's 6 non conference games were away, the other two were in
town but at the sight of the opponent. Their opponents ranked 2, 40, and
43 in the 3/13 RPICH figures. They played two each against michigan, air force,
and fairbanks.
all of minnesota's non conference games were in the twin cities. The
opponents ranked 1, 2, 9, and 37 in the 3/13 RPI. The opponents were
michigan, michigan state, yale, and bu
each team lost 1 non conference game. CC lost to michigan and
minnesota lost to BU
