Well, the Indiana Hoosiers dominated the first minute of tonight's first
half of the Indiana-Miami weekend doublheader.

Too bad the Redskins dominated the next 53, in winning a 5-1 decision
over Indiana at the Frank Southern Center.

Geoff Hedle scored a rebound goal just 1:08 into the game for IU, and it
looked like IU would be flying again.

It would be all the Hoosiers would score. The Redskins dominated the rest
of the first period and all of the second, racking up 5 goals and
outshooting Indiana 35-11 in the first two frames.

The floodgates opened when IU's Ryan McMahon was caught playing with a
broken stick shortly after the goal, and Miami's Dan DiMarco scored on
the ensuing power play. The Redskins took the lead for good on Tony
Packo's goal late in the first that deflected off of IU goaltender Alex
Kyrias' shoulder.

It took 7:55 for the Redskins to hit the board again in the second
period, but it was a long time in coming...Miami controlled the period,
as IU got called for icing more than they took a shot on goal.

Andy Loughnane scored the goal to put MU up 3-1 midway through the
second...then Cole Loomis added one five minutes later...then three
minutes later it was Conner Kerr's turn to light the lamp. By the time
the floodgates were closed, Miami was up 5-1.

The Hoosiers tried to mount a furious comeback, but were denied by MU
goaltender Brian Freirchs, who had a stellar night with 24 saves, and an
MU penalty kill that staved off a 5-on-3 power play late in the second/
early in the third.

Tonight's win clinches the Midwestern Collegiate Hockey League's regular
season title for Miami and the #1 seed in the MCHL tournament to be
played next weekend in Bloomington.

The same two teams will face it off Saturday night at 6:15 at the Frank
Southern Center. The game will be broadcast in Bloomington on WIUS, AM 1570
or on the IU campus on TV channel 2 (audio only). Ronny Whitworth and
myself will be the announcers.
