"Jeffrey T. Anbinder" <[log in to unmask]> asked for a rule
reference to deal with the fish-throwing incident causing
a delay of game penalty against Cornell in the Harvard game
last Friday.

NCAA 6-25 Note 3: If fans throw objects on the ice after
being warned, a bench minor penalty may be assessed
against the offending fans' team for delay of game. At
the discretion of the referee, a warning may be issued
        before the game.

It's the ref's discretion about which team the fan belongs to,
generically, if it's from a particular team's section, then unless
the other fans in that area make it jolly clear that the offender
was an interloper .......... The wording in the interpretations
section of the officials' manual (situation 1 page 76) is

"... a bench minor will be assessed the offending team,
as determined by the officials, ...
