(I meant to get this out yesterday, but I had editor problems. :-) )

In regard to the recent discussion about whether or not it is good to have a "#1"
goalie, I have heard some strong points for having two good goalies, but there have
been cases where a #1 goalie may just be better.

For example, during the '92-'93 season, Clarkson had two solid goalies in their
rotation, senior Chris Rogles and junior Jason Currie. The two had (more or less)
alternated starts for the first part of the season, however the team played
with little consistency and had a modest just-above-.500 record. But, then
after the new year, coach Mark Morris decided to start Rogles in two consecutive
games against SLU. Rogie played terrific in both games, in which Clarkson won
6-0 and 4-1. After that, Rogie started virtually every game for the rest of the
year. CU finished strong (only winning the ECAC tourney and getting a bid to the
NC$$'s).

I guess my point is that even though it's a good idea to have two strong goalies,
I think it's more important to have one man you can count on. This is not to say
that the "#1" netminder will win every game, but certainly the games you need to
win.

I agree to an extent with Kurt Stutt & Jayson Moy in that Dan Fridgen should probably
have started Tamburro, but you do need a solid replacement. I may be sounding
contradictory, but in the aforementioned case, Currie was a solid backup. It's
hard to say why Morris started Rogles for the rest of the year (he was a senior,
coach's decision, etc.). I can see why Fridgen started Masotta, though. Yes,
Tamburro is having a great year so far, but HE CAN'T PLAY EVERY GAME!!!! It's
putting too much pressure on Mike to make him THE man. If RPI is to get back to
the NC$$'s, RPI needs a solid backup. Masotta can't become that until he gets
some playing time

Just my $.02.....
