Heather, the First Lady of Plattsburgh State Hockey (oh yes, also my
wife), is the general manager of the local Sons of Italy entry in a
league in Methuen, MA (north of Boston). A good friend of mine, Mike
Jankowski from Northeastern, plays on the team and got it started last
year. In their game last night, Heather noticed there were a couple
of familiar faces on the other team...Steve and Andy Heinze. Steve,
of course, is waiting out the NHL lockout to return to the Bruins,
while Andy is an assistant at Merrimack (and, in our biased opinion,
is the best of the Heinzes :-)).

So Heather was extremely proud that the Sons pulled out another
victory, this over a team with a current NHL player. :-)

BTW, Jankowski was the second leading scorer in the league last year;
first was Cal Ingraham's older brother (darn, forgot him name...it
wasn't Bobby). There was also a possibility that Cal would end up
playing for his brother's team in this league if he didn't hook on
with a pro team; last I heard, he was in the East Coast League
somewhere.

Between this and the BU alums showing up next week, don't be surprised
to see some other NHLers playing at a rink near you. The men's leagues
must be enjoying the best quality of play they've ever had. :-)
