The ECAC Women's Ice Hockey League seeds are determined in the same
manner as the ECAC Division I Men's League. The top eight teams from
the final league standings are seeded 1-8. Teams receive two points for
a league win and one point for a league tie. Ties in the final
standings are broken according to the following (only results from the 11
league contests are considered):

        1. Head to head competition
        2. Record against the top four league teams
        3. Record against the top eight league teams
        4. Goal differential in head to head competition
        5. Goal differential in games against the top four teams
        6. Goal differential in games against the top eight league teams.

This year's final standings had two ties: Providence and Northeastern
were tied for first (Providence had the edge because it beat
Northeastern); Harvard and Dartmouth were tied for 7th (two teams tied
their league games; both teams were 0-3-1 against the top four; both
teams were 0-5-2 against the top eight; they tied their head-to-head game
so there was no goal differntial there; finally, the 5th tie breaking
criterion proved decisive -- Harvard's goal differential against the top
four was minus eight and Dartmouth's was minus nine. Two pretty evenly
matched records!!

The innaugural season of the ECAC Women's Ice Hockey League was a
tremendous success; should be an exciting tournament.
