Nan Gorton '96 (Wellesley, Mass.) scored the natural hat
trick to lead the Bowdoin College Polar Bears to a 6-0 victory over Williams
College in a women's ice hockey game played at Bowdoin's Dayton Arena
Saturday.

Eliza Wilmerding '97 (Brookline, Mass.) started the scoring with a goal from
in front of the net at 7:31 of the first period. Michel Phaneuf '96 (Hudson,
N.H.) scored the Polar Bears second goal when she scored from in front on a
backhand that was set up by a Jane Kim '96 (Andover, Mass.) centering pass
from the left circle at 14:31. Kim scored a goal herself on the powerplay off
of a feed from Gorton at 5:58 of the second period.

Gorton then took over. Her first goal came unassisted at 9:53 of the second
period when stole the puck and led a breakaway down the center of the ice. She
then stopped right in front of the crease and put the puck in the upper right
hand corner of the net. GortonUs second goal was scored from her knees at the
left circle after Phaneuf passed her the puck and Gorton lost her balance
while trying to get into scoring position at 2:17 of the third period. Gorton
completed the hat trick with a shorthanded goal from the slot at 13:03 that
was set up by a centering pass from Phaneuf, after she had received the puck
from Holly Shaw '97 (Denver, Colo.) after Shaw had stolen the puck from a
Williams forward.

Bowdoin goaltenders Dagan Klein '95 (New York, N.Y.) and Sasha Ballen '96
(Wynnewood, Pa.) combined for the first two-goaltender shutout in Bowdoin
women's ice hockey history by combining to stop all 10 Ephwomen shots.
Gretchen Engster '95 (West Hartford, Conn.) made 37 saves in 50 minutes in
goal for Williams, while Kimberly Whiteman '97 (Athens, Greece) made one save
in four minutes. Bowdoin improves to 2-1 for the season, while Williams drops
