Jim Teresco mentioned Ken Schott of the Schenectady Gazette; I had Ken on
the air between periods of the Union-Merrimack game last week. I put the
question to Ken about Union's administration placing DivIII restrictions on
the program such as only allowing them to play 25 regular season games, and
asked if this walking the fence was hurting the program and could Union
field a successful DivI program under these conditions. (How's that for
being controversial.) Ken seemed to think this was only a temporary thing
and a reaction to the Harkness days, and that after a few years when the
integrity of a DivI program at Union has proven itself, the administration
may loosen things up a little and allow them to come more in line with some
of the other programs. I thought that was an interesting comment from
someone who covers Union regularly, and I figured that since we have
discussed this in the past, it was worth relaying here.
