UMASS DARTMOUTH IS 10TH IN USCHO.COM PRE-SEASON DIVISION III POLL
MINNEAPOLIS, MN–The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s hockey team is ranked 10th in the annual pre-season United States College Hockey Online Division III poll.
The Corsairs, who advanced to the NCAA Division III playoffs for the second year in a row last season and were sixth in last year’s final poll, are the highest ranked team from their conference, the Eastern College Athletic Conference Northeast.
Defending champion Oswego State is ranked first, followed by St. Norbert. Middlebury, Manhattanville, and Norwich occupy the next three positions, followed by Wisconsin-River Falls, Neumann, Babson and Wisconsin-Superior. ECAC Northeast rival Curry is among the teams also receiving votes.
"We are honored to be ranked along with the elite of NCAA Division III hockey,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach John Rolli. “Since most pre-season polls serve as recognition of previous accomplishments, I assume we are ranked for back to back league championships and consecutive 25-win seasons. That being said, this season's team will have more than its work cut out for it with the loss of six top players from last year's lineup.”
UMass Dartmouth, which is 50-8 during its past 58 games and has gone won 14-1, won the ECAC Northeast championship and advanced to the NCAA Division III playoffs in each of the past two years, will open the 2007-08 season by visiting conference opponent Becker on Saturday, November 10th.
