The Union Dutchmen resumed their ECAC schedule this weekend with the
Cornell-Colgate trip. The Dutchmen defeated Cornell, 6-2, on
Friday, but lost by a 8-5 score at Colgate on Saturday afternoon.

The box and some comments were posted by Arthur Mintz at Cornell.

Unfortunately I did not see the game, despite the ticket I had (and
still have). A foot of snow scared us off.. Apparently lots of other
people were scared off as well, judging by the low attendance. The
star of the game for Union was freshman forward Chris Ford. In
addition to it being his birthday, he scored Union's first hat trick
since Craig Ferrero back in 1990-91, while Union was playing in the
ECAC Division II. The three goals also give Ford 11 goals on the
season, more than any Dutchmen player all of last season. The win in
goal by Mike Gallant also marks his first win in an ECAC League game.

Union has had more success than anyone against Cornell since entering
the ECAC two seasons ago. Union is now 3-2 against the Big Red, with
2 of the wins coming at Lynah Rink. Union will play Cornell again in
the last game of the season in March.

Summary:

I only heard parts of this one on the radio, but it sounds like Union
was thoroughly dominated in the first period. I guess the Dutchmen
were a little overconfident after the Cornell win, but whatever the
reason, Union was outshot 14-4 and outscored 3-0 in the period. Union
came back with a strong second to make it a 4-3 game in favor of
Colgate after 2 periods. A wild third period, with Union getting 16
shots and Colgate 20 gave Colgate the 8-5 win. The highlight for
Union had to be 2 more goals by Chris Ford, giving him 5 on the
weekend, and 13 on the season.

Union is now 1-5-1 in the league, and 5-5-2 overall. They will be
back home next Friday night to face off against RPI. The teams will
travel to Troy on Saturday to complete the home and home series.
Union's ability to put the puck in the net and RPI's inability to beat
the weaker teams on their schedule could mean a very interesting
weekend.
