Update regarding federal funding.

ALA is looking for stories about how libraries are helping students during the pandemic. Also, any assistance to job seekers, helping people with telehealth appointments, vaccine registration, etc. You all have stories to tell - so email me any stories to pass along to ALA that they can use as they lobby for libraries with legislators!

State Librarian, Jamie Ritter, reported on the federal COVID legislation that would provide a minimum of $2,000,000.00 to MSL to provide COVID relief. Once legislation has passed, MSL will review IMLS Guidance on eligible services, programs and subgrants and have a statewide discussion and a survey on plans to best spend the money to the benefit of all.
Jamie also reported that the new Cultural Alliance of Maine (CAM) and the search for a Pilot Project Director is complete and an announcement is forthcoming for this grant funded project.

Vaccination Eligibility

Maine Vaccinations have moved to Aged-Based Approach. Information is on the COVID-19 Vaccination in Maine<https://www.maine.gov/covid19/vaccines> webpage. Appointments for 60 and over became available on March 3. President Biden's new announcement about increased production and the goal to vaccinate teachers resulted in some changes in Maine. See Governor's Mills announcement - Maine Aligns Vaccination Plan with President's Directive to Make School Staff & Child Care Providers Eligible Through Federal Retail Pharmacy Plan<https://www.maine.gov/governor/mills/news/maine-aligns-vaccination-plan-presidents-directive-make-school-staff-child-care-providers>. MSL will continue to monitor vaccinations and other Maine COVID poliies for changes that may impact librarians. For those libraries who are helping with vaccination appointments via library computers please note time needed may exceed your time limits - so please take that into consideration as you are assisting people.

Trustee Handbook - The new 2021 Maine Library Trustee Handbook is available for download via PDF. We have an online request form<https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2021TrusteeHandbook> set up to pre-order a print copy. Print and mailing costs (even with van delivery) exceeds $5000 - so we would like to ensure that we print copies for those libraries that want a new copy! Please fill out the Library Trustee Handbook Request Form to order your library one free copy. You may order additional copies at $20 each. Libraries are free to download the PDF and have it printed locally. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2021TrusteeHandbook
