Subject: York County Community College Digital Humanities grant application: participants sought

Hello all-
I am writing to see if any small museums, libraries or similar organizations within York County are interested in signing on as participants to a NEH one-year planning in digital humanities that we are preparing here at York County Community College.

The focus of this small grant would be professional and curriculum development and planning for future collaborations and projects. As the abstract states:

This planning grant would be used to build capacity in York County, Maine for local organizations to develop public history projects using digital tools. The grant would fund a needs assessment of committed organizations, two workshops focused on planning and developing digital expertise, and the development of an entry-level course, at York County Community College, aimed at teaching students to use digital tools to present public history projects based on local history.

If funding is successful, I anticipate that the first workshop would take place in mid-November, 2017, at York County Community College, and the second in May, 2018. Workshop topics would probably include an exploration of successful examples of digitized public history project, easy-to-access tools for doing digital projects, and time for planning. The content of the second workshop would be based on the outcome of the first ones, but likely would focus more specifically on using certain kinds of digital tools.

Please be in touch with me directly at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> if you are interested in participating.

Because of the holidays, we are on a tight deadline and need to submit the grant in mid-December. If your organization is interested, we would need a brief letter of commitment saying that your organization will participate in the project if grant funding is awarded, along with a short biography of the main contact (i.e. museum or library director, organization president, etc) along with a brief two-line biography that lists your name, title and any relevant information, such as educational credential. I would need the letter by the end of the day on December 14, 2016, but ideally would like to get it sooner.

I'd also be happy to answer any questions. I'm not sure if I'll have all the answers, given that the grant is an idea in process, but I know that questions will help us to develop ideas and move the process forward.

Best regards-
