Monday's Beanpot scores and one story ...

Beanpot
First Round
   Boston College 5, Northeastern 4, 2OT
   Harvard 4, Boston U. 2

BOSTON (AP) -- John Joyce scored with 3:08 left in the
second overtime to lift Boston College to a 5-4 victory over
Northeastern Monday night in the opening round of the 42nd
annual Beanpot tournament at Boston Garden.
The Eagles snapped a four-game winless streak and raised
their overall record to 11-12-3. They face the winner of
Monday night's other semifinal, between Harvard and Boston
University, next Monday.
Northeastern, which saw its Beanpot misfortunes continue
against the Eagles, fell to 15-7-4. The Huskies have lost
25-of-33 meetings against the Eagles.
Joyce, a senior winger, collected a loose puck out of a
scramble at the right of the net and sent a quick wrist shot
over sprawling goaltender Mike Veiser for the game-winner.
BC has not won the Beanpot since 1983, the longest drought
of any of the four schools involved. It has captured the crown
only twice in the last 29 years and has not been in the finals
since 1991.
The Huskies tied the game at 4-4 with 4:53 left when Jason
Melong collected Dan Lupo's centering pass in front and
slipped a short shot under BC goalie Greg Taylor.
BC had built a 4-2 lead on Jeff Connolly's goal 2:16 into
the third period before the Huskies' Jordon Shields closed
the gap 1:47 later.
Jack Callahan, Greg Callahan and Don Chase also scored for
Boston College.
J.F. Aube and Darryl McNair scored for Northeastern.
Northeastern's starting goalie Todd Reynolds, who missed
all of last season with a back injury, had to leave the game
4:37 into the second period due to back spasms.

SORRY - AS OF 1:45 A.M., NO STORY ON THE HARVARD-BU GAME. I'LL CHECK AGAIN
IN THE MORNING.
