Headline 1. USAFA has 6 outstanding periods but only gets a loss and a tie.

Headline 2. Major Penalties hurt USAFA

Friday:
The nanooks opened up a 2 zip lead early in the first, but usafa
stormed back to even the score at the intermission.
The cadets took a 3-2 lead in the second, but with one second left
received a major penalty for kicking. This reporter felt there should
have been majors both ways (instead of a major and minor) but that
        is beside the point.
The nanooks scored twice to take a 4-3 lead on the power play. Air
force got the equalizer ith 27 seconds left to force overtime.
The ofertime featured wide open play with several shots going off the
post both ways, but the score after 4 periods was 4-4
Saturday:
The first period was scoreless. The nanooks took a major for checking
from behind with 3:30 left. Air Force was unable to get even a shot on
goal through the entire major. This reporter credits sloppy play by
the falcons more than good defense by the nanooks. Each team had a 2
on one in the second period, but only fairbanks converted, to hold a
1 0 lead at the second break. Despite early pressure in the third,
USAFA was unable to even the score. Fairbanks got a second goal about
5 minutes into the period, and then the wheels came off for the
falcons. The final score was 6 0.
Officiating:
Not bad. Reasonably consistent. The nanooks were the first to figure
out that the official was letting them play more in the third period
friday, but it really didn't make that much difference. I wish I had a
name, but he's from houghton, Mich., kinda tall and a mustache.
Headlines explained:
usafa played 4 good periods friday and two saturday. It didn't win them
either game. The two goals on the major against them friday, and the
inability to score during their major advantage saturday hurt them.
