Mark-  There has been much talk of the infamous nickname clause and from what all the media outlets can come up with one does not exist.

On the issue of getting rid of all the logos at The Ralph and other UND venues.  The NCAA settlement allows UND to change the logos when maintenance requires replacement.  In other words, carpet with the Sioux logo would need to be replaced in 5 years.  While the inlayed Indian marble floor logos may be worn out sometime in the next 50 years.  There will be fighting sioux logos at the Ralph as long as the ralph is standing, IMO.

Hope this helps.

Subject: Re: UND Set to Retire Fighting Souix Name & Logo

wasn't there a big deal in the Ralph Englestad arena construction that
stipulated that the arena/school management must never do anything to remove
the names and images of the Fighting Sioux from the arena?

This should prove interesting to see how that gets resolved.

Also, the article states that this move was necessary in order for UND to
join the Summit League.  Wonder if this means that UND will graciously drop
out of the WCHA to make room for Bemidji.

(I know that the Summit League does not include hockey. This was  a joke
meant to provoke UND fans and get some traffic on the list for the long, dry
off-season).
