A favorite radio announcer of mine loves to talk about "good losses".
;-) Guess this should fuel his fire, as a road loss is only six tenths
of a loss! Holy Cow, 0.6! (1.4 wins for a road win ... opposite at home)

As it's too cold here ("below the donut") tonight to take the dogs for
their nightly walk, I decided to see how this ranking would look for
D-I men's college hockey now as we're somewhat past mid season. The
results may be found below, following Charlie's post. I call it
RPIHOME. Column two shows the change in ranking from this week's RPI. A
negative value means that a team is ranked higher in RPIHOME than RPI.
If it's formatted poorly in your mail program, perhaps this URL will
look better:

cheers, wayne

P.S. No one has said I've interpreted NCAA basketball's change
appropriately! In addition, I have no idea how the NCAA went from about
68% wins by home teams over the past several years (a value I've seen in
a couple of places) to the 0.6 and 1.4 win/loss values. And, yes, I
know 1.4/(0.6+1.4)*100%==70%.

(*) Special
note:

RPIHOME is a ranking that attempts to mimic a variation of RPI
being
considered by the NCAA. It takes into account a Division I wide
home
ice advantage by multiplying home win values by 0.6 and road
win
values by 1.4, thus giving significantly more value to road
wins.
