Not necessarily.

The education may be more of less the same whether he goes now or next year.  His hockey
opportunity probably isn't.  If that's the case, making the decision based on hockey says nothing
about his attitude toward education.

There may be other considerations; for example there may be more financial aid available this year
(or at a non-Ivy, a scholarship might be available as a result of the player leaving).
