In an almost carbon copy of the Bears' 2-1 victory over Princeton last
evening, Brown closed out the Tigers with a 3-1 win tonight at Meehan
Auditorium.

As was the case last night, the two teams locked up in another match
that resulted in a scoreless tie after two periods, with the Bears being
outshot 14-10 in the opening stanza and then turning the table on the Tigers
in the middle frame, 18-9. But it wasn't until sustained Brown pressure on
Tiger netminder, Eric Leroux, finally paid off with a two-goal explosion at
9:26 and 9:50 of the third period, that the Bears finally gained an
advantage. Princeton just as quickly cut the margin in half with a
short-handed tally at 10:08, but a powerplay goal during a five-minute
major penalty (for running Brown goaler, Yann Danis, in the crease) sealed
the final verdict for the Bears. Thus, very much like last evening when all
the goals were scored in a five-minute span, tonight, all the scoring took
place in an 2 1/2 minute interval.

The Bear triumph eliminated Princeton from the ECAC Championship
Tournament and allowed Brown to advance to a best-of-three series against
Yale at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, CT next weekend. This promises to be an
exciting and closely-contested set of games between the 4th and 5th place
teams in the final ECAC regular season standings. The Bulldogs will be
resuming action after earning a first-round bye and the accompanying 12-day
layoff, while the Bears will bring a confidence forged over this past
weekend's success. The winner of this quarterfinal match-up is assured a
berth in the ECAC final four to be held March 21 & 22 at the Pepsi Arena in
Albany, NY.
