MEN?S HOCKEY SKATES TO 1-1 TIE WITH UNION
Both goaltenders outstanding in ECAC league contest
With both teams getting outstanding goaltending, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and Union College men?s hockey teams skated to a 1-1 tie in a Division I Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) contest before a season-high 4,376 fans at the Houston Field House in Troy, NY. RPI is now 4-4-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the ECAC. Union is 3-4-3 overall and 0-2-1 in the league.
Both goaltenders were especially outstanding throughout the first two periods with RPI?s Nathan Marsters stopping 21 shots through two periods, including 15 in the second. Brandon Snee had 25 saves through the first two periods, including 13 in the first stanza.
RPI senior Matt Murley finally broke the scoreless deadlock at 2:44 of the third period when he ripped a shot above Snee and into the back of the net with the Engineers on the power play. Murley?s goal, which was set up by Marc Cavosie, was his seventh of the season. The Skating Dutchmen came right back to even the score when Jeff Hutchins jammed a rebound of a Jason Kean shot under Marsters at the 4:05 mark. For Hutchins, a senior, the goal was his fourth of the season. Seamus Galligan also assisted on the goal.
Marsters finished with 34 saves while Snee stopped 33 shots for Union, which improved to 3-1-1 in the last five games with the Engineers.
RPI returns to action next Friday night when they will face league foe Yale at the Houston Field House while Union will host Princeton in an
