PROVIDENCE HOCKEY DEFEATED BY
ST. LAWRENCE, 4-3, IN OVERTIME

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's hockey team was defeated,
4-3, by St. Lawrence in overtime at PC's Schneider Arena on Friday, November
23. St. Lawrence's Rich Peverly scored just 1:05 into the overtime period to
give the SLU Saints their third win of the season.
        Peverly's game winner came after Charlie Daniel tipped a blast from the
point with just 6.9 seconds remaining in the contest and an extra attacker
on the ice.
        In the first period, Blair Clarence scored 9:16 into the contest to give
St. Lawrence a 1-0 lead. PC sophomore forward John Luszcz (Ludlow, Mass.)
tied the score just two minutes later to tie the contest at 1-1. Mike Muir
gave the Saints a 2-1 lead with 3:36 remaining in the first period when he
scored his first goal of the period.
        In the second period, PC sophomore Jonathan Goodwin (Taunton, Mass.) tied
the contest for the Friars, 17:14 into the period. Goodwin and junior Doug
Wright (Kamsack, Sask.) fed junior Mike Lucci (Parma, Ohio) in front of the
St. Lawrence goal and beat Mike McKenna on a quick wrist shot.
        The Friars led, 3-2, all the way til there was 6.9 seconds remaining and
St. Lawrence scored the game-tying goal with an extra attacker.
        Providence freshman goaltender David Caccioli (Burlington, Mass.) made 25
saves in two-plus periods of work for the Friars. SLU's Mike McKenna
registered 30 saves in the contest.
        The Friars return to action on Saturday, November 24 when they host
Clarkson University at 7:00 p.m. at PC's Schneider Arena.
