Providence hockey defeats northeastern, 5-3
junior Jon DiSalvatore tallies four goals

NORTHEASTERN, MASS. -- The Providence College men's hockey team defeated
Northeastern, 4-3, at Matthews Arena in Boston on Saturday, November 10th.
Sophomore Jon DiSalvatore (South Windsor, Conn.) scored four goals in the
win for the Friars.
DiSalvatore became the first Friars to score four goals in a game since
Dennis Burkes' four-goal game against Northeastern on December 10, 1994.
The only scoring in the first period was done by Northeastern when the
Huskies' Chris Lynch fired a shot that hit PC's Peter Fregoe (Massena,
N.Y.) in the back and into the Friars' goal. PC goaltender Nolan Schaefer
(Yellow Grass, Sask.) made a total of 13 saves in the period, to keep the
Friars in the contest.
In the second period, Northeastern opened up a 2-0 lead when Jim Fahey
came out of the penalty box, received a long pass in the Providence end and
broke in all alone with Schaefer and beat the Friars' goaltender low and
past the left pad. The Friars pulled to within one goal at the 8:42 mark
when Jon DiSalvatore (South Windsor, Conn.) fired a shot from the high slot
over the glove of NU's Jason Braun and into the top left corner of the net
for a power-play goal. Stephen Wood (Sudbury, Mass.) and Devin Rask
(Parkside, Sask.) assisted on PC's fifth power-play goal of the season.
DiSalvatore scored his second goal of the contest at the 14:01 mark when
he broke in all alone on NU's Braun and scored shorthanded. With 9:40
remaining in the contest PC's Wood unleased a blast from the points that
sailed over Braun's glove and into the top corner of the goal to put the
Friars ahead, 3-2. Mike Ryan tied the contest at 3-3 at the 6:07 mark but
DiSalvatore, right off a face off pass from junior Doug Wright (Kamsack,
Sask.), scored his third goal of the game, putting Providence ahead, 4-3,
with 6:00 minutes remaining. DiSalvatore added his fourth goal of the game
with 13 seconds remaining with an empty netter from Chris Chaput and Nolan
Schaefer.
The Friars return to action on Wednesday, November 14 when they travel to
Boston College for a 7:00 p.m. face off.
