On the subject of new arenas, the Kohl Center in Madison was built for
$76.4 million, completed in time to open midseason for basketball in
January 1998. It was originally designed as a basketball-only building, as
the two largest single contributors were Milwaukee Bucks owner Herb Kohl
and a hoops alum by the name of Ab Nicholas, but a $4M upgrade made it
hockey-ready.

It seats about 17,000 for basketball, with capacity just over 14,000 for
hockey due to bad sightlines from some portions of the second balcony.

If you could build that arena for under $50M in Fargo, I think it would be
a good deal.

Subject: What do new arenas cost?

I would like some help from the list. Up in Fargo, ND
we have been knee deep in feasability studies, and
estimated costs. It looks like a new downtown hockey
arena is becoming more of a reality. With a new arena
comes a Div. 1 program for North Dakota State
Universtiy. The proposed arena will hold 8500 and
cost anywhere from $31-41 million. My question is
what have the new rinks that have gone up in that last
5 years cost? How large are they? Can anyone from
St. Cloud can tell me how much the National Hockey
Center cost?

Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Matt
