The inconsistencies bothered me, too.  But looking at it the other way,
the CCHA provided (IMHO) the oomph to get back to the 1 ref system, which
i much prefer to the 2 ref 1 line system.
 
From watching the NHL, I think the 2 ref system DOES work, but it is sure
strange to see an off the play call.
 
Now for some bit of humor, name 4 officials you WON'T want to see work
together.
