Nice to see a coaching rumor verified. We learned of this one Saturday
morning in the Anaheim Marriott's Concierge Floor breakfast when a number of
coaches and scouts commented that Woog got offered a 1 year deal to coach
the team or a reassignment within the athletic department as a fund raiser.

Carole and others more familiar with the U of M commented that Woog solely
needed one year left in service to the University to collect his pension.
The rumor went on further to state that the job remained Lucia's for the
asking. CC's brass decided to crunch numbers to see if they could match any
potential offers.

I asked the collection of coaches if the All-Minnesota HS recruiting
restriction would fall by the wayside as well. They reluctantly retorted,
"you need to ask them," as if to frown on my eavesdropping.

Everyone I talked to at the game and at JT Schmidt's seemed to welcome the
change, yet wondered if it slighted the assistant coach at the U who many
thought basically ran the day to day operations of the team.

Removing the restrictions garnered great support at the Frozen FourŪ. Does
this accurately reflect the Mariucci Masses? In addition, someone mentioned
the animosity between Lucia and Woog. Will this strain the relationship
within the Athletic Department?

BTW: Best Mascot: Sparky the Seawolf (Like a Ritalin child in the candy
aisle). Best Band: Michigan State. Best Assist: MSU's defenseman making a
perfect tape to tape pass to the UNH forward forechecking who deposited the
goal past Blackburn. Funny Moment: BC Superfans dancing with the unaware
Maine band during the stoppage in play.

One more point...here's one reason I liked the neutral site of Anaheim.
Everyone got along. Even afterwards where alcohol and a heated game between
rivals usually do not mix. Kudos to all and congrats to the Black Bears.
More congrats to Jason "Hobey" Krog for putting the student in
student-athlete.

'til then. Carpe Diem.

Make it a great day.

                >Just thought you might like to know. The men's department
has called a
                press
                >conference for 3 p.m. today and are expected to announce
that Woog is
                resigning
                >and will accept a fund-raising position within the
department.
