Well, the conference tournaments are history, and so is the Pick the Tourneys
Contest. It's time to announce the winners, so without further ado, the
overall contest winner is... (drum roll, please) (okay, a cinnamon roll will
do)

     Nathan Eric Hampton

who takes the top spot with 164 points, beating runner-up David Morgenstern by
15. Nathan wins the honor of being despised by the rest of us for his amazing
college hockey acumen (luck), his keen grasp of the vagaries of tournament play
(luck), and his sheer prognosticating ability (more luck).

As for the individual conference winners...

Troy Vassen took top honors in the ECAC with 57 points. Nobody picked every
game/series in a conference perfectly, but Troy came closest, missing by a mere
three points in his ECAC picks.

In Hockey East, David Morgenstern and Nathan Eric Hampton tied with 44 points
each, with David taking the top spot by virtue of the first tiebreaker. His
predicted final score was one point closer than Nathan's.

William Sangrey won the CCHA with 35 points, in large part because he was the
only one to predict Michigan's championship win.

In the WCHA, *nobody* picked Denver to win it all. Nathan Eric Hampton and
Andrew Christianson tied for the lead with 38 points each, and the first
tiebreaker (final score prediction) gave the crown to Nathan by two points.

The MAAC produced a three-way tie for first among Nathan Eric Hampton, Jim
Walker, and Bill Krebs with 36 points each. Bill lost out on the first tie-
breaker (final score), and the second tiebreaker (total goals in the
tournament) gave Nathan Eric Hampton the top spot.

A special "you're scaring me" award goes to Andrew Christianson, who correctly
forecast the final score of four of the five championship games. He missed
only the WCHA, which unfortunately was the one he needed for the tiebreaker.
 Life's funny that way :-)

Complete scoring results are below. Congratulations to all the winners, and
thanks again to all those who participated.

Tiebreaker notes: The first tiebreaker was the difference between your
predicted championship-game score and the actual score. Thus, if you picked
the score of the ECAC championship game (actually 3-2) to be 4-3, you would get
two points; if you picked 5-0, you would get four points; and if you picked
3-1, you would get one point. Obviously, the lower point score the better.

The second tiebreaker was the difference between your predicted total of goals
scored in the tournament and the actual number.

As far as tiebreakers that were actually needed:

For Hockey East, the championship score was 5-4.
For the WCHA, the championship score was 4-3.
For the MAAC, the championship score was 4-3, and the total number of goals
scored in the tournament was 62.

The USCHO prognosticators' numbers are also included below.
