Here's another one for the rulebook gurus:

During Friday night's Providence-Miami game, Friar netminder Mark Kane was
called for a ten minute misconduct and then made to serve it himself. I
spoke with several people afterward and all had the same response as myself
- I've never seen that before. Is this a recent rule change?

The call followed a score off a goalmouth scramble. Kane picked up the puck
then half dropped, half threw it at the ice in disgust in no particular
direction. It bounced once then rolled toward the referee.

Since no offense appeared to be intended the call may be enough to earn
Referree Doiron a nomination to the Steve McBride "I'm what all you people
came to see" award. And Kane sitting in the box looked as incongruous to me
as that commercial with the goalie in full pads sitting on a couch
babysitting.
